Dec. 22 Established the Bookcity Culture Foundation to realize the urban goal of Bookcity and revitalize the City so that it would lead in the knowledge and information age of the 21st century and to operate and manage the international multi-cultural research facility, the Asia Publication Culture & Information Center. Yi Ki-Ung, the president of Youlhwadang, was appointed as the Chairman of the Board.
   
2004  
Jan. 05 Paju City received the publishing department's registration certificate of the foundation and Goyang District Tax Office issued the business registration certificate of the foundation.
Aug. 30 Since the foundation was serving the public and the public's interest, the government designated the foundation as an organization that could receive donations from benefactors, enterprises, or the other organizations for the maintenance of its operations.
Oct. 15 Celebrated the second 2004 Paju Children's Book Festival with the theme, 'We are playing and learning in Bookcity', for 10 days. Simultaneously, held a Korea-Japan Publishing Exchange Seminar to discuss ways in which to improve the two countries' publication cultures.
Oct. 24 Invited senior publishers to a lunch party and explained the vision of the past, the present and the future of Bookcity.
Oct. 29 Personnel from the Cultural Industry Bureau of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism visited Bookcity and toured the main facilities.
Nov. 12 World Life-Culture Forum - Gyeonggi 2004 was held in Bookcity. Philosophers, theoreticians and men of action from all over the world participated in the forum. They expressed empathy with life and culture as a topic for the 21st century and insisted on the importance of recognizing the voice of all the people of the world.
Dec. 28 Held a symposium to check the progress of Bookcity, especially architectural progress, to express the will for successful completion, and to find ways into the future. Also in the same day, to complete 2004 and celebrate a new year, held the family year-end music concert, [Meaningful 2004 and Hopeful 2005], for the employees and occupants of Bookcity and their families.
   
2005  
Apr. 29 Chang Do-Lee's Monodrama 'Dancing Monkey, Red Peter' stirred the imagination of the people involved in publication and stimulated intellectual curiosity of others.
May. 28 The music critic, Chang Il-Bum's performance, 'Class of Opera Music Appreciation - Accompanied by Explanation', was held twice, in May and June. The families that visited Bookcity could take part in and enjoy it.
Jun. 25 Held DMZ 2005 International Modern Art Exhibition for 30 day sat the Asia Publication Culture & Information Center in order to reinterpret politics, society, economy, culture, and the particular geopolitical characteristics of the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) in the form of private views of international artists.
Sep. 02 Held [World Life-Culture Forum - Gyeonggi 2005] following 2004
Sep. 30 Celebrated the third 2005 Paju Children's Book Festival with the title 'Children's Book - Exciting Imaginary World'. This festival had various events including a children's sight-adjusted book exhibition.
Oct. 05 Published the first book, [The Bookcity News], about news and events in Bookcity for communicating among members of Bookcity.
Oct. 07 Invited Sugiura Kohei(Japanese), Lu Jing Ren(Chinese), Huang Yung Sung(Taiwanese), Chung Byung-Kyoo(Korean) and the other publication-related people in East Asia. Held a symposium and to analyze the exchange status of publication culture and to consider plans for co-operation. Inaugurated Sugiura Kohei's Book Design Exhibition.
